Reaching the Finish Line!!

Just setting off...

Kathleen with the pupils of Parklands School

This summer I`m taking part in The Galloway Re-Cycle Sportive 10th August 2013 to raise money for my charities: Parklands School, Kererra Island Parrot Sanctuary and Milton S.S.P.C.A.
You will see from the Helensburgh Advertiser articles in May and June that I am hoping to buy a special bike for the secondary school children at Parklands. I have been to visit the school a couple of times and met the staff and children. On my first visit the some of the children had just returned from a residential course/break and had enjoyed cycling.

The bike!

It seemed pertinent then to use the money I will raise to buy a bike as the children enjoyed it so much and I am cycling 102 miles to raise the money, there`s a connection there.
I was also invited along to a movie afternoon to see a dvd of the children and staff, showing all the different things going on at Parklands.
The dvd was very good, it was uplifting to see very happy, smiling children.

I am planning to visit the parrot sanctuary next week. Having sadly lost BJ our Macaw in March this year I really wanted to raise money that would help parrots, and support this worthwhile rescue home for parrots.
We still miss BJ, the shop is so quiet without him.

Milton S.S.P.C.A. do so much good locally and we support them at other times of the year particularly at Christmas when we have a box of goodies that we and customers fill with dog biscuits, treats etc..

At the moment I am training 3 times a week, mainly over Glen Fruin.
Nearer the time it will be up to between 60 and 70 miles 3 times a week.
I am really looking forward to taking part in the Sportive on 10th, it will be challenging and hard work on the day.
It will be worth it, and it means so much more because I am raising money for local worthy causes and hopefully making a difference.

I`d like to thank everyone who has sponsored me so far!
